Knitting a Sweater in 5 days: Good idea?
Posted by Megan Goodacre on Feb 9, 2012

Here are a couple of instagram snapshots of something I'm working on. I get to work with Rowan Yarns Savannah, a cotton/silk tape yarn. It has a lovely finished texture, quite pebbly. It makes you want to stand around like a fabulous windswept model on a rocky English beach. (Unlike Rowan's wool blends, which make you want to stand in misty heather).
I've set myself the goal of knitting it in a few days. No problem, no problem. That will be, could be, just fine, as long as I don't make mistakes. But I'm prone to mistakes. Terrible ones. We'll see how it goes. In honour of common mistakes, I've added an article: Knitting Mistakes and How to Avoid Them . I hope that I can follow my own advice.
Oh and that's a crocheted provisional cast on, my favourite kind of provisional cast on. The only one I can remember how to do when I'm in front of the tv and too lazy to google provisonal cast on.
We'd love to hear from you. Add a comment

Hi Andrea, You're right, sweaters can take a long time. But sometimes, the stars align, and everything just comes together, and they seem to finish themselves. Look for seamless patterns, with a gauge that's not too small (worsted or aran weight for example), that really helps. I did reach my target and get the sweater done in time! It's a pattern for Knit magazine, should be coming out in the summer. Happy knitting! Megan

Tricksy, I am working on my first knitted sweater (I have crochet one before) and boy is it a looong process - I usually make hats and socks because they can be finished quickly. I was very interested to watch your progression on this one - did you get it done? What pattern did you use? Andrea B
