Knitting Chart Symbols
The next knitting chartmaker, the stitch chartmaker, will convert shorthand for knitting stitches to clear, visual charts using knitting symbols.
Listed below are the knitting chart symbols supported by the soon-to-be-released Tricksy Stitch Chartmaker. The chartmaker is a work in progress, so some of the symbols below may look like they were made by a programmer... Ahem, well, maybe they were. They'll be replaced with proper knitting symbols once the actual knitter/designer gets around to it.
I know there is some variation among knitters about naming knitting chart symbols. We've had to pick and choose among the naming conventions to get one that is more or less common everywhere. I know some people write "sl1, k2 tog, psso" as three stitches and some people write "sl1-k2tog-psso" as if it was one. In the end it takes up one column in a chart and uses one symbol, so we've chosen to write it as one stitch. If that's not the way you would write it, sorry. Hard choices had to be made. :)
Below is our list of knitting symbols, with the right side on the left and the wrong side on the right (what you would see if you flipped the knitting over). If you see that we've missed knitting symbol please let us know.
